Style with structure is the Dizingof signature

For a designer responsible in creating the iconic Melbourne label DIZINGOF, entirely without formal design training, Haim Bzezinski is surprisingly modest.

A quiet man, Bzezinski tends to shy away from fashion shows and disposable trends, choosing instead to focus on the garments themselves. It is this focus and creativity which has made Bzezinski in to one of Melbourne’s most sought after independent designers.

Born in Israel, Bzezinski and his three brothers were raised by their mother and their carpenter father. For a time the designer worked in carpentry alongside his father, a skill which he still utilizes today, both as inspiration for his work and in designing the DIZINGOF stores. At a young age Bzezinski was uninterested in fashion, instead though his feel for aesthetics and structure was evident in his first love, architecture.

It was this love of combining style with structure which developed into a natural feel for fashion. After leaving home at 21 to travel the world, Bzezinski finally settled in Melbourne, drawn to its independent fashion scene. It was here that he decided to create not buildings, but clothing as carefully designed and constructed as any modern structure.

Astonishingly self-taught, Bzezinski’s designs owe more to the city environment surrounding him than to the influence of one particular designer or teacher. But though he has excelled in his chosen field Bzezinski has not left his love of architecture behind

Designed by Bzezinski to flatter not only his range, but the surrounding area’s atmosphere, DIZINGOF boutiques are as much a reflection of Bzezinski’s innate sense of style as the clothing within them. Truly it is their designer’s background in carpentry and his appreciation of architectural style which have made DIZINGOF boutiques what they are todayture behind

DIZINGOF over the years has remained committed to utilizing not only local design, but local production. The last twelve years have confirmed that creating pieces in Australia leads to not only a better quality garment, but one which helps support local industry. For summer 2009/10, Dizingof’s newest project is taking the brand to the next level within the wholesale industry and introducing Bzezinski’s signature collections to the world.

Love grows organically

From the mouths of babes, inspiration is born. This is exactly how Samson & Delilah was created.

Craig Missell was trying to come up with a memorable name for his new brand, something that could be used in strong marketing strategies but was also fun. It was proving a challenge, they spent months coming up with and then discounting names, until one day his 10-year-old daughter Sasha, sitting at the dinner table blurted out “how about Samson & Delilah?” and as they say `the rest is history’.

Since their launch in 2011, Samson & Delilah has consistently delivered something new to the children’s wear market. But rather than build on, they have improved on the niche market, with their predominantly natural garment line with a modern bright look.

Their collections balance the functionality and practicality of a well-made garment with the look and feel of funky children’s wear, without loosing the innocence of youth.

Not surprisingly their inspiration mostly comes from their youngest son Jules, who will only wear soft comfortable clothes. They also keep a close eye on what’s trending in the 5-year-old category, and feedback from retailers is key.

They are about to exhibit the brand at Fashion Exposed from 25-26 August at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

“Our brand has been extremely well-received through strategically chosen retailers, as we can now see by sales and more importantly re-orders, it is time to take the brand to the next level,” said Craig.

“We needed a vehicle to further showcase the Samson & Delilah brand and once we looked into the choice of exhibitions in Australia, we evaluated price, patronage etc, and it was clear that Informa Exhibitions was the obvious choice for us.”

Samson & Delilah hope to continue their crusade of developing a brand with flair for today’s little heroes.

“We tell them to go further, dream bigger and look great doing it,” he said. “We are dedicated to the brand’s quality. We invest in comfort and fashion.”

Look elegant, feel comfortable

It all began when a small town, Australian girl decided to start making eco-friendly bamboo clothing for real women.

After 15 years in the mainsteam retail fashion business, Anna Walsh decided she wanted to design fashion that not only looked great, but also helped the planet. It was then she discovered that you could make clothes out of bamboo!

With a creative focus, and design nous she set about fusing the eco-friendly fabric into her own fashion line, Body Peace.

Soft stretchy fabric made from natural bamboo fiber is the environmentally-friendly choice for leisurewear, travel, and yoga. Bamboo is a sustainable crop which grows at a very rapid rate with no need for irrigation or chemicals.

Bamboo fabric is more breathable than cotton, and more absorbent. It’s hypoallergenic, naturally antibacterial, softer to the touch, and thermal regulating.

Body Peace use this fabric to create elegant, comfortable clothing that flatters all shapes while limiting its impact on the natural world.

“Once you feel for yourself how luxuriously soft it is you’ll want to wear nothing else,” she said.

Inspired by beauty, nature and peace of mind, Anna injects all these aspects into her business and design.

Her main line has been so successful, she’s currently working on a bamboo denim range and her own collection of bedding.

This stunning range of wearable luxury will be showcased on stand 2610 at Fashion Exposed from 25-27 August at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

As a result of the Federal Government’s Commitment, the TCF Australia ONLINE ENERGY EFFICIENCY Training & Mentoring Project is able to offer an extensive range of specialist services to small businesses in the fashion, textile, clothing, footwear, leather (TCF) creative, and associated industries across Australia.

TCF will be offering FREE mentoring on energy efficiency on stand 1800 during Fashion Exposed from August 25-27 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

For a preview of the service they’ll offer, we asked them for a selection of quick, easy and cost effective ways to reduce your heating, cooling, lighting and office energy usage.

Heating and air-conditioning

The good news is that significant savings can be achieved with simple adjustments in the way the equipment is used. E.g. set thermostat to 24 degrees when cooling and 20 degrees when heating, use fans when possible, and keep systems well maintained.

In addition, install window tinting, insulate and install high star rating inverter style air-conditioning units.

Lighting

Lighting accounts for a significant portion of energy costs in TCF businesses and is one of the easiest areas in which you can save energy and money.

Tips include installing sensors in low usage areas, painting walls and ceilings in light colours and replacing all old-style incandescent lighting.

Office process and other equipment

Switch equipment off when it’s not in use, put equipment on energy saving mode, buy 5 star rated equipment when upgrading.

Some of the top tips for TCF businesses in particular include:
• Air-conditioning system adjustments
• Fluorescent lighting upgrades
• Hi-bay light upgrades

To make sustainable changes to your energy practices build an energy efficient culture, start small and aim high!
