Fancy fedoras, floppy felt and flat brim hat fashion…

via Candice Lake

Want to put a positive spin on the dreary winter chill?
For me, the best way to get out of the house or office and enjoy the weather is by dressing up for it.
Embrace the gale force winds with a shaggy fur jacket in a subtle lilac from Zara or Prada-esque bright blue fur stole draped around your neck.
Fend off the icy air with arm-length leather gloves and a pair of knee-lhigh designer boots over your black skinny denim jeans.
But if you really want top the look off with finesse, opt for the finest in hat couture! And it’s the best way to keep warm, while looking seriously cool.
This is my favourite part of dressing for the cooler season and there is plenty of headgear to choose especially with the 70s influence in fashion right now.
Try on a fancy fedora, men traditionally wore this style in the 1950s and I still see a few classy fellows sporting the look in Melbourne now. I love it.
But with the girls for boys androgynous trend in fashion today, this is also a fitting hat for the ladies – I love the vintage Sonia Rykiel hat below on this savvy stylista shot on the streets of New York by Vogue.co.uk snapper Candice Lake. It gives a mannish look to her feminine face.

This is also a great fedora style, love the darker shade paired with a colourful ribbon.

Or there is the classic trilby, this hat has a smaller brim and is often referred to as a `short-brimmed fedora’.
It is a great cover for the end-of-the-work-week hair on the weekend. It gives bed head some serious street cred.
The below look is a colourful version from the recent Bec and Bridge show at RAFW. Love the super sweet and soft lilac and pink hues.

Russian it girl, model and fashion buyer Elena Perminova works this salmon-flavoured Maison Michel felt trilby hat to perfection.

If these are too boyish for your style, then opt for femininity and a 70s flair with a floppy felt hat, a must-have this season.
Susie of Style Bubble blog wears this gorgeous floral version, shot by the talented Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil blog.

For those who are a little more daring and truly indulge in testing the latest trends, then this Hermes flat-brimmed Spanish style in leather is a must.
It will instantly update your look, even if that look is just a plain white tee and denim.

**Be warned, the addition of this incredible headgear will see you automatically transcend into the next style realm.
