Heavy Metal…

This season heavy metal makes a come-back, and no we’re not talking the head thrashing music variety either.
The latest fashion trend heralds the return of gold lamé, yes you heard right, as well as copper and silver tones, and heavy embellishment for a metallic sheen in everything from jackets and skirts to full length ball gowns.
But before you shun this shiny micro-trend, let’s take a look at the ways you can wear it.
It doesn’t have to be an all-in-one look, you can accessorise your outfit with a splash of shine and glitz.
Try throwing on a cropped blazer in a subtler blacky gold colour such as this Ellery bolero from her recent RAFW runway show.

Vintage inspired…

There was a time when fashionable femmes wouldn’t be seen dead walking into a second hand clothing store or op shop, but fast track a few years and hip young things have gotten thrifty.
With the cyclical nature of fashion, girls have realised their local St Vinny’s offers much more than moth balls and grandpa knits, it can also be a valuable resource for tracking down today’s trends in their original form.
Remember the Mad Men 50s housewife craze that recently swept the high fashion runways? Louis Vuitton were charging thousands for their modern take on the poodle skirt and corseted dresses, but frugal fashionistas put their pretty thinking caps on and scoured Savers for the prototype.
It has also spawned the new wave of DIY style with many getting out the scissors and sewing kits to nip and tuck the older designs into a more modern and flattering fit.
To get an insight into this phenomenon, we spoke to active antiquarian and owner of online vintage boutique, Tenspeed and Brownshoes Rachel Wakefield on her personal vintage adventure, obsession with everything 70′s, and what’s hot in vintage fashion right now.

Panache lingerie tick all the boxes…

Masquerade

Finding the perfect bra can be likened to the search of the holy grail for women.
It has been a long and tiring search to find one that ticks off all the essential criteria of comfort, support and high-fashion appeal.
We often reach straight for the most fashionable bra first, and suffer later from constant adjusting through the day, straps that fall off your shoulder, and a sore back from poor support.
Thankfully UK-based lingerie company have thrown women a lifesaver with their cleverly crafted Panache bra range.
The award-winning brand have built their reputation on those three core values of Fit, Support and Comfort, specialising in D plus lingerie.
But there’s no sign of `grandma-esque’ styles or colours here.

Resort 2012 trend… Head-to-toe Print…

Celine Resort 2012

With the closure of the Resort 2012 collections it’s time to collate the looks we love and put them into a cohesive trend list.
The first very noticeable trend was the head-to-toe print look.
From the queen of cool designer Phoebe Philo at Celine, to the glamour of Gucci from creative director, Frida Giannini, the look was clear – dynamic, contrasting prints in floral, traditional brocade or animal print worn as separates, but altogether.

Neon splashback with Michael Kors…

Source: via Fashionologie

For most of us, Neon is a tragic reminder of the 80s, and I know we have touched on the latest craze for the techno trend on FE blog before, however, I stumbled upon these awesome runway pics of the Michael Kors Fall 2009 show and had to share them with you.
It shows the American designer, normally known for his safer styles and classic takes on sportswear, splashing out from the usual beige and autumnal tones of the season with rebellious injections of full block colours in blinding brights of effervescent orange, vivid fluoro green, and searing hot pink.

Mannequin Minute: with Isabel MacMaster…

Photographer: Livana Gosal

She has the pearly complexion of a snow princess, lashings of lustworthy locks in the deepest chocolate shades, and razor sharp cheekbones that are cutting her out to be fashion’s next big star.
After being scouted by Chadwick Models walking along Sydney Road, Isabel MacMaster was quickly flown to Milan where she worked with fashion heavyweights Giles Deacon and Gabriele Colangelo, and walked in Aldo Coppolla’s show, shot videos for Vespa and print work for Golden Point.
But behind the beauty mask, the Melbourne maven is just a humble homegrown sweetie pie who loves Fuji apples and making video clips with her little sister in her bedroom.
We took five with the leggy looker to chat about her beauty regime, favourite clothing label, and her not-so-secret dream of acting on Home and Away.

Crafty Couture… the best of DIY…

DIY Chanel Clutch aka the brown paper bag reinvented

While we all love a good dose of retail therapy, sometimes your bank balance just can’t accommodate everything on your wishlist.
It is also a much greener look at the world if you re-use your existing wardrobe to transform old pieces into something new, modern, and relevant to current season styles.
Plus, when it really comes down to it, who isn’t privy to a little homegrown crafty magic.
It’s a great hobby to pick up during winter. While you’re stuck indoors around the comfort of the heater, get out the sewing kit, glue gun and scissors for some good ol’ DIY designer fun.
Thankfully for you, FE Blog have done most of the legwork for you and stumbled on several fantastic websites who also love to be thrifty with their threads.

The rise of the midriff…

Madonna was a crop top pin-up in the 80s – photo source via Google images

One of the most common trends growing up in Queensland during the 80s was the midriff, otherwise known as the crop top or boob tube.
From the simple cotton cropped variety worn with cut-off denim shorts at the beach, to the more sophisticated styles worn with tailored pants for an evening out, the midriff was hot.
Of course the best accessory in a midriff is a toned stomach, so for many of us, this meant serious sit-ups best achieved via the Jane Fonda 1982 workout video.
While many of us who lived through this look as a youth will probably cringe at the mention of the bare belly look, there’s no denying this torso trend is making a comeback.
Girls will be seen exposing their mini midsections all summer long.
But don’t shy away from this look just yet, the recent Australian Fashion Week showcased several homegrown brands who formulated this trend into a sexy modern style that most will be proud to don.

Chanelling the inner bohemian… head jewellery

Photo via google images

Whether you feel like tripping through the daisies with a pocket full of dreams at sunset, or you’re just in the mood to channel Nicole Richie’s bohemian style at your next dinner party, head jewellery is the perfect accessory to transport you into the gypset style.
It’s also becoming a very popular option for hippy-esque weddings and barefoot brides who prefer a relaxed country setting or beach-side glamour.
Personally, this is a great fun piece I love to don just traipsing around the city on my day’s off. There are certainly plenty of options out there, and it might be fun to have a bit of DIY play with this too.
Especially if you have a few old chains lying around.

Here are my top head piece picks;
