OneWear wonder…

Fashion is often criticized for being lavish and excessive, the rise of fast fashion and high street designer knock-offs has spawned a new generation of fashion fans keen to spend their dispensable income on the `now’ and the `very latest’ looks, disregarding longevity for the sake of being `on-trend’.
It can often mean a very crammed wardrobe and girls living up to the cliche of `nothing to wear’. But just when we thought our relationship with fashion couldn’t get more fickle, the perfect solution comes about to bring back the balance.

Introducing Oneweardesigns.com created for women to sell, buy or swap their (once worn or lightly worn) clothing in an environment dedicated to all things fashion. The site has been created to simplify the experience of buying and selling second hand and pre-loved clothing online and at a minimal fee too. They only charge from $1.50 – $3.00 per item of clothing listed, making it an affordable way for women to sell the clothing they’re no longer wearing.

And it’s not just savvy shoppers that are cottoning on to this either, fashion insiders are also jumping on board with a Shop Til You Drop store (loads of the STYD staff are participating from the editor down – and they’ll be updating their site monthly), websites like Rescu & Daily Gloss, stylists including Jo Ferguson, Kelly Smythe and Kelly Hume along with many ‘anonymous’ fashion editors, stylists and women around town.

Fashion Exposed Blog tracked down the creator of Oneweardesigns to chat about the unique online recycled fashion concept, why she kept the listing prices so low, and what sets it apart from other sites such as eBay or Etsy.

Why did you believe the Oneweardesigns website/concept would be successful?

We have created an online fashion site where you can find and shop directly at all your favourite boutiques. The website is very user friendly and purposely built with features to make it easy for a user to understand when uploading or buying or browsing. It gives fashionistas the opportunity to be able to buy, sell or swap designer pieces with other fashionistas in an easy, stylish online environment.

What is the underlying message you wish to express through the Oneweardesigns site?

You can buy designer and high street clothing, sell or swap your wardrobe with other girls who have the same style as you, all whilst the garment is still in fashion. And it gives boutiques an amazing opportunity to create their own e-commerce site – making their brand accessible to a global community.

How long did it take to get the concept off the ground and operating as a website?

The concept took over a year to put together, the actual design and developing of the website has taken a year to build and is being improved daily.

You only charge from $1.50 – $3.00 per item of clothing listed – why did you decide to keep the listing price so low?

This fee is to reward our existing customers, they also get their own URL with this price and up to five images per item to best showcase their garment. Our fee structure makes it the most affordable way to sell clothing online as there isn’t a percentage taken from the sale – the listing price is simply upfront with nothing else to pay and nothing for images.

How is this different to other sites such as eBay or Etsy? What makes your site stand out from the others?

Oneweardesigns.com is easy to use and not cluttered with items that are not associated with the fashion industry. Users and buyers understand all costs associated with the website – there are no hidden fees.

Rescu & Daily Gloss, Stylists including Jo Ferguson, Kelly Smythe and Kelly Hume along with many ‘anonymous’ fashion editors, stylists and women around town are already getting on board and selling their wares – how does it feel to have created such a strong online fashion `community’?

The response we have had in four weeks has been overwhelming and to have such trust from key industry people to come on board with a new website is an enormous achievement.

Where do you hope to take the website in the future?

We have already started promoting the website on a global scale. We have a currency convertor going live in the next few weeks to ensure users find our site the easiest to use and most friendly to shop at. Due to customer demand, we will soon be launching handbags and accessories on the site.

What is your favourite piece up for grabs at the moment?

There are way too many to choose from – but I’ve quickly learnt that if I personally love something, I need to get on to buy it quick smart as it’s a fast moving site.
