Spring 13 Trend spotlight: Relaxed tailored `slouch’ pant

From L-R: Balenciaga; Rue du Mail; Felipe Oliveira Baptista; Balenciaga; Vogue Australia fashion editor Christine Centenera in Ksubi AD/BC leather pant; Guy Laroche; Barbara Bui

A new pant has emerged from the spring 13 runways and she has a manish appeal with a feminine touch.

The relaxed tailored pant is back. Remember the 80s turkish pant? Well this sniffs of that style with its high waist and bagginess at the hips.

There is an instant attraction to the ease and slouchiness of this style, but it’s the attention to strict tailoring principles with clean and sharp angles for a strong silhouette, making it the perfect pant for both casual day wear and upmarket evening attire, especially the leather versions.

This relaxed style is also making a come back as a modern race day option teamed with a slick blazer. Fashion’s love affair with the crop top remains but with just a flash of flesh, as seen at Balmain for their spring 13 collection in Paris overnight.

What do you think of the new pant? Will you consider it for race day this month?

Brkich in the velodrome

Brkich shoot at the Brunswick velodrome

A chance encounter brought three emerging design talents together for one very fashionable celebration. Consecutive winners of the 2012 Fashion Exposed DEBUT Apparel Award – Brkich and Apom (A part of me) – happened to be placed side by side at the recent Melbourne trade event, but while good luck brought them together, a common passion for innovation and design inspired them to collaborate.

The two labels have paired up to collectively launch their Spring Summer 2012/13 ranges at the So:Me pop-up space in South Melbourne. Brkich will use the event to announce the official launch of her first formal collection, ‘Bright Smoke’.

The two exciting up-and-coming designers gave EXPOSED Online an exclusive preview and insight into their latest SS 13 collections before the So:Me pop-up launch; details on how their individual label aesthetic warrant a shared pop-up; and what lies ahead for the future.

Apom DEBUTs on The Grand Social…

Fashion Exposed DEBUT Apparel Award Winner, APOM is the collaboration between Kajsa Kvernmo and Kate Brook, “a partnership bound by a mutual affinity for handcrafted techniques, narrative and the natural world.”

Their unique style of vintage meets modern fusion has been widely embraced and applauded, but it’s their tribute to the artist aesthetic, honouring the artisan, that truly sets them apart. APOM promotes all those involved in the creation of each garment, from the artist who creates the prints, to the manufacturers that construct each piece locally in Melbourne.

“The aim is to empower the wearer to be informed on the life of a garment, to develop an awareness of the hand of the maker, and develop an attachment to the garment that transcends the notion of clothing itself.”

You can shop the above collection at The Grand Social HERE.

Catch our interview with APOM and fellow DEBUT award winner, BRKICH as they team up for So:Me Space in South Melbourne.

Oxblood trending on the streets of NYFW Spring 13…

NYFW Spring 13 Street Style trends via The CUT

As one of the most popular colours for Fall 2012, it’s no surprise then that fashion’s infatuation with oxblood should transition to Spring.

From DKNY, Peter Som, Haider Ackermann, Helmut Lang, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Derek Lam and Alexander Wang’s Fall collections all embraced the burgundy hue from head to toe mahogany to accents via accessories from wide leather belts to bags and oversized totes seen at Celine.

Even The CUT documented the oxblood tone as a key look during NYFW Spring 13. Expect the leather trend to continue through the season in this deep wine shade along with separates, outerwear, accessories and footwear.

The return of the cut-off denim shorts…

Just as the weather is heating up, so is the fashion and that means shorter hemlines, backless and strapless will be making their way into our wardrobes.

But once again our recent obsession with the 90s comes back to haunt us with the cyclical return of the cut-off denim short, seen having a major moment on the streets during New York Fashion Week.

Fashion editors were seen sporting vintage Levi’s varieties with ripped, frayed edges and distressed details. Even Taylor Tomasi Hill was seen in black Ksubi’s offset with a long sleeveless blazer and shirt tails poking out the pockets.

Will you be sporting denim cut-offs this summer?

Mirrored reflection…

Fashion is all nostalgic for the early 90s lately. From double denim ensembles, to plaid shirts tied around the waist (seen at Phillip Lim Spring 13) and now mirrored sunglasses. From the subtle silver reflections to the super garish orange and blue shocking shades, they’ve all made their way onto the stylish noses of famous editors and bloggers for NYFW Spring 13.

Taylor Tomasi Hill made them famous here during her MBFWA tour rocking out the Westward Leaning orange shades.

If anything, it makes for a handy lipstick mirror… what do you think of the reflective look?
